Trastevere Charm

Trastevere Charm

The last weekend of July marked the end of the almost 3-week Noantri Festa in Trastevere. For those of you who aren’t familiar, this is one of the oldest and most beloved feasts in Rome. The ancient religious festival (which literally translates to “ours”) dates back to the 1500’s, where a group of local fishermen discovered a statue of the Madonna in the Tiber River after a huge storm.

Nowadays, the festival is celebrated with various events for approximately 17 days. It begins with a procession where the famed statue is carried through Trastevere to the church of San Crisogono, where it is kept for 8 days before returning home by boat along the Tiber River on that last day. Definitely a sight to see. But if you didn’t get a chance to witness it firsthand, you can always explore this beautiful and ancient neighborhood all year round with Eden Walks.

For the history lovers...our Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere tour is the perfect option. This walking and sightseeing tour begins with The Jewish Ghetto - another neighborhood with deep roots. Become enlightened with the long and tragic history of its inhabitants as you walk amongst the ancient ruins and beautiful architecture that have endured the test of time.

Across the river awaits the second destination of the tour. Trastevere (“beyond the Tiber”) was a relatively unknown tourist destination until recent years. The 13th district of Rome is famous for its narrow, cobblestone streets and ancient houses. A neighborhood that is rich in history and charm, Trastevere is now home to some of the best restaurants in The Eternal City.
